Job Title: Tax Manager

Reports to: Tax Partner

Purpose of the Role

The Tax Manager is a senior leader responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and advisory services. This role ensures that all tax engagements are executed with the highest standards of quality, adherence to firm policies, and compliance with relevant tax laws. The Tax Manager will lead a team of tax professionals, review complex tax returns and computations, provide authoritative technical expertise, and strategically guide clients through intricate tax landscapes. This position is critical in maintaining client relationships, driving business development, and contributing to the overall success of the tax practice.

Job Responsibilities

Client Advisory: Provide expert tax advice to clients, ensuring their needs are met, and issues are resolved promptly.
Client Meetings: Attend client meetings, discussing tax strategies, planning, and outcomes, ensuring client expectations are managed and technical concerns are addressed.
Tax Technical Input: Provide technical input into client projects, ensuring tax-related advice is aligned with the firm’s tax policies.
Assist in the preparation and review of tax reports and correspondence for clients, ensuring adherence to the firm’s tax practice manual and quality control procedures.
Reports Ownership: Take ownership of reports issued, including assignment plans, tax computations, tax returns, and tax management letters.
Prepare business reports on tax-related matters, including tax representations to clients, tax authorities, or tax tribunals, as needed.
Ensure accurate and timely preparation of documents and reports related to tax audits, disputes, or inquiries.
Provide technical analysis and support in the preparation and finalization of tax computations and returns, ensuring they are fully compliant with tax laws and internal templates.
Conclude on complex tax issues related to client assignments and provide solutions or recommendations for improvement.

Person Specifications

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation or professional qualification ACCA/CA Zambia/CIMA
Minimum of 8  years of progressive experience in tax compliance, advisory, or related roles within a public accounting firm or large corporate tax department, with extensive exposure to corporate tax, VAT, payroll, and complex tax returns.
Member of ZICA
Demonstrated expertise in preparing, reviewing, and strategizing on tax returns, computations, and other sophisticated tax documents, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of applicable local, national, and international tax laws.
Proven experience in leading client engagements, advising on highly complex tax issues, and managing client relationships.
Must be a member of ZICA

Proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop junior staff.
Master-level knowledge of tax laws, compliance procedures, and advanced tax technical concepts.
Proven ability to analyze highly complex tax issues, identify strategic solutions, and provide actionable, high-impact recommendations.
Unwavering ability to ensure that all tax-related documents and reports are impeccably accurate, complete, and compliant with all regulations.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with clients, lead teams, and present to senior management and partners.
Superior organizational and project management skills with the ability to strategically manage multiple complex tasks, competing priorities, and strict deadlines.

Job Title: Tax Supervisor

Reports to: Tax Manager

Purpose of the Role

The tax supervisor is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day tasks of the tax department. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring all tax staff recording to the position are performing accordingly. He or she is expected to advise the client on tax related matters. The tax supervisor should work closely with clients and co-workers always. The tax supervisor reports to the Tax Manager and Tax Partner on administration and technical issues.

Detailed Job Responsibilities

Coordinating tax department tasks
Providing comprehensive tax advice to clients on various tax matters covering all areas of taxation
Lead and manage client relationship with a focus on high-value quality tax advice after approval of managers and seek to expand services to clients
Identify Tax Health check opportunities, managing, and coordinating said tax assignments
Manage and coordinate regular tax assignments and special tax jobs
Preparing and interpreting Transfer Pricing documents and international tax
 Prepare for both internal and external tax trainings
Maintaining and updating risk management procedures
Review work done by subordinate staff and offer guidance
Train and develop subordinate staff
Ensuring the company complies with all applicable codes, as well as its legal and statutory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation or professional qualification CA Zambia/ACCA/CIMA
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a similar role
Excellent knowledge of tax principles and law, tax audits, tax compliance and all types of tax returns
Must be a member of ZICA

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop junior staff.
Strong analytical
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of matters as required
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines with attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively in business English, both written and verbally
Familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office
