Job Purpose

The COO will be responsible for strategy and overseeing and optimizing post-sales insurance operations, including customer services, retentions and claims management. Oversee the organization’s core operational functions, including IT, Underwriting & Policy Management, and claims management, ensuring they are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. Provide leadership and direction to the IT Management team, Business Development Manager, and Claims Management team, fostering collaboration and accountability across these areas. Drive operational efficiency by streamlining processes, reducing bottlenecks, and implementing best practices. Participate to the set-up of the company’s strategy in close collaboration with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong operational background in insurance, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction across all post-sales functions.Job fair tickets

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the organization’s core operational functions, including IT, Underwriting & Policy Management, and claims management, ensuring they are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
Collaborate with the Executive Committee to translate the organization’s strategic vision into actionable operational plans.
Ensure that operational priorities support the company’s goals for growth, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.
Collaborate with Sales and other departments to align operational functions with customer-centric strategies.
Leverage feedback from customers, brokers, and internal teams to continuously improve operational processes.
Provide leadership and direction to the IT Management team, Business Development Manager, and Claims Management team, fostering collaboration and accountability across these areas.
Drive operational efficiency by streamlining processes, reducing bottlenecks, and implementing best practices.
Regularly evaluate the performance of operational teams, providing feedback and support to drive excellence.
Work closely with the IT management team to ensure that the organization’s technology infrastructure supports business needs and drives innovation.
Improve daily organization and workflows to ensure maximum operational efficiency.
Assist in recruiting, profiling, and selecting talent to build and maintain the organization.
Maintain and builds trusted relationships with key customers, partners, vendors, management, and stakeholders.
Support the CEO and executive team in all aspects of the business and operations
Ensure that operational processes comply with regulatory requirements and organizational policies

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualification and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Insurance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management or a related field.
MBA, Master in Insurance/Risk Management will be a plus
Must have a minimum of 8 10 years in insurance services with significant exposure to operations/claims/underwriting. 
With at least 4 5 at senior leadership / executive management level with a strong track record of driving efficiency and scalability.
Must have Professional Certifications – Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications (certifications in risk management; regulatory/insurance body certifications.
Proven knowledge of the Zambian insurance regulatory and licensing requirements and procedures
Must have an understanding Insurance Act, Tax laws, financial reporting under Zambia’s standards.
In-depth knowledge of post-sales insurance processes, including customer service, claims management and retention strategies.
Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the insurance industry.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects
Expertise in process optimization, project management, and operational strategy
Must be a fellow or associate of Insurers Association of Zambia
Financial software
