Prepare for insurance sales agent jobs with honest product boundaries, client-needs records, commission questions and safer application checks.
Insurance sales adverts can describe salaried employment, commission-based agency work or trainee arrangements. Before applying in Zambia, verify the insurer or intermediary, written contract, authorised products, training and compensation. This guide does not provide insurance advice or determine licensing eligibility.
Verify the role and organisation
Record the legal organisation, title, work area, contract status, reporting line, product category, pay components and official application route. Check current regulatory or employer requirements with the relevant official source. Do not assume that general sales experience authorises you to advise on an insurance product.
Ask whether leads, travel, phone data and training are provided, and how cancellations affect commission. Never pay a person for a guaranteed book of clients, exam result or appointment.
Prepare ethical sales evidence
Choose an example of asking questions, explaining information accurately, recording consent and allowing the customer to decide. Do not present pressure tactics or hiding exclusions as sales skill. State when a question had to be referred to an authorised specialist.
If you are new to insurance, use customer-service or retail evidence and label it. Transferable communication is useful, but it is not proof of product competence or regulatory authority.
Build a fictional client-needs record
Use an imaginary person and no real financial data. Record the stated need, information provided, questions unresolved, documents shared, consent status, authorised adviser or reviewer and follow-up date. Do not recommend a product in the exercise if that decision would require authority you do not hold.
Add a field showing which statements came from the client and which details were verified. This prevents assumptions from being recorded as facts. Include a privacy note and a retention or deletion status appropriate to the fictional process.
Write the CV for insurance sales
Lead with the channel—field, branch, telephone or business development—and relevant verified experience. Use bullets connecting customer work, a control and an outcome. Distinguish appointments, completed applications and policies actually activated; they are not the same measure.
Copy training and certification titles accurately. Do not claim to be licensed or accredited unless current evidence supports that wording. Remove customer names and policy details from examples.
Interview and acceptance checks
Prepare stories about a customer who declined, a misunderstood term and a request outside your authority. Show that you corrected the record and escalated rather than forcing a close.
Before accepting, understand basic pay, commission, clawbacks, targets, probation, travel and document custody. Read the written contract and verify unexpected identity or banking requests independently. Apply through the official current route, retain confirmation and never pay for selection.

Frequently asked questions
Are all insurance sales agent roles salaried?
No. Contract and commission structures vary. Ask for written terms covering pay, targets, expenses and cancellations.
Can I advise on insurance products immediately because I have retail sales experience?
Do not assume so. Follow current employer and regulatory requirements and stay within your authorised training and role.
