Key Responsibilities for Technical Coach Heavy Mobile Equipment Jobs in Solwezi
- Compliance and Governance: Ensure adherence to all health, safety, environmental, quality, finance, and human resources policies and legal regulations relevant to the role. Maintain compliance with mechanical codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Coaching and Training: Deliver on-the-job coaching to Heavy Equipment Repair (H.E.R) technicians, rigging artisans, and tradesmen based on engineering department needs. Collaborate with the KMP Training Department to develop formal training materials and conduct structured training sessions targeting identified skills gaps.
- Technical Oversight: Promote best practices and create a continuous learning environment through effective coaching methodologies. Provide visible leadership on-site, support fault diagnosis, and lead corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime.
- Learner Engagement and Assessment: Engage learners actively using effective communication techniques. Conduct assessments to identify skill gaps, design interventions, and evaluate their impact. Act as an independent assessor within the Proficiency Framework and support the development of high-potential artisans.
- Leadership and Culture: Provide feedback to supervisory staff to enhance artisan skills. Foster a coaching culture throughout the organization and collaborate with HR to align coaching initiatives with company goals. Recognize team achievements and lead with a People First mindset.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade 12 (G12) school certificate.
- Craft Certificate or equivalent in Diesel Mechanics; formal Rigging qualification is advantageous.
- Specialist training from a recognized Heavy Mobile Equipment OEM such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, or Liebherr.
- All qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable coaching experience or formal coaching certification, with proven success in workforce upskilling and fostering a continuous learning culture.
- At least 10 years of hands-on maintenance experience in Heavy Mobile Equipment within a mining operation, including 3 to 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in rigging activities and mining safety protocols.
- Proficiency in diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques for complex repairs.
- Experience with reliability maintenance processes and KPIs such as RCAs, MTBF, MTTR, and FMECA.
- Competence in computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., PRONTO) and MS Office applications, with a willingness to learn new software including learning management systems (LMS).
