The Specialist, Compliance will provide expert advice to the environmental management team, middle management, and employees regarding environmental compliance and management. The role involves developing and implementing procedures, management plans, and liaising with government authorities to ensure adherence to environmental regulations and corporate standards.
Key Responsibilities in Compliance Specialist Jobs in Kalumbila
- Plan and execute internal inspections and audits of facilities, ensuring timely closure of non-compliance issues aligned with company objectives.
- Conduct compliance audits of contractors and suppliers to maintain environmental standards.
- Investigate environmental incidents, recommend corrective actions to mitigate pollution risks, and maintain a corrective action tracking system.
- Collaborate with supervisors, environmental managers, and external stakeholders including government inspectors and community members.
- Lead awareness campaigns to promote understanding and communication of the Environmental Management System (EMS) among employees and contractors.
- Review and update the environmental legal register, providing management with relevant feedback.
- Coordinate statutory reporting and permit applications, including bi-annual returns, Environmental Impact Assessments, and permit renewals.
- Monitor the implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and manage Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) reporting.
- Support environmental emergency preparedness and response planning.
- Analyze environmental monitoring data to ensure compliance and promote improved housekeeping and waste management practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field, with certification by ZAQA.
- At least three years of relevant experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining sector.
- Strong knowledge of Zambian environmental legislation, corporate compliance commitments, and international best practices.
- Proficiency with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and environmental law compliance.
- Valid driving license and computer literacy are mandatory.
- Full Grade 12 certificate as a minimum educational requirement.
