JOB ADVERTISEMENT — ZAMBIA SUGAR PLC
Manufacturing Function | Packaging and Warehouse — Twazabuka
Zambia Sugar Plc, an ABF Sugar Company and Zambia’s leading sugar producer, invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following permanent positions within the Manufacturing Function. These roles will be based at the Twazabuka Packaging and Warehouse facility and will begin in the project environment before transitioning to business as usual.
1. MECHANICAL ENGINEER — TWAZABUKA (PERMANENT)
The successful candidate will manage and oversee the mechanical scope of work for the Twazabuka project.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full lifecycle of the mechanical scope from planning through to execution and completion
Review and develop mechanical systems to ensure compliance with project and site specifications; review technical drawings and standards
Co-create the maintenance philosophy, annual plan, goals and KPIs aligned to EAM; develop maintenance schedules and standards in SAP
Serve as client liaison with contractors, consultants and internal teams throughout the project
Perform on-site inspections and provide technical support during installation and implementation
Ensure optimal performance of all mechanical equipment and fulfil GMR 2.1 legal compliance duties
Plan and execute mechanical maintenance schedules for packing lines; conduct root cause analysis to reduce downtime
Implement predictive maintenance programs including vibration analysis and lubrication management
Drive performance management, KPI monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives
Maintain CMMS discipline, accurate BOMs and KPI dashboards; oversee daily execution targets on safety, quality, schedule and budget
Promote and enforce ABFS policies including SHERQ, Food Safety, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery & Corruption
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent
Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
Minimum 3–5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in high-speed packing or manufacturing environments
Familiarity with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) methodologies
Completion of required training modules for area of responsibility
ZAQA-verified certificates required
2. INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER — TWAZABUKA (PERMANENT)
The successful candidate will manage and oversee the instrumentation and automation scope of work for the Twazabuka project.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full lifecycle of the instrumentation and automation scope from planning through to execution and completion
Review and develop instrument and automation systems for compliance with project and site specifications; review technical drawings and standards
Co-create the maintenance philosophy, annual plan, goals and KPIs aligned to EAM; develop maintenance schedules and standards in SAP
Serve as client liaison with contractors, consultants and internal teams throughout the project
Perform on-site inspections and provide technical support during installation and implementation
Design, install and maintain instrumentation and control systems including sensors, transmitters, PLCs and SCADA in accordance with Group standards
Perform calibration and performance checks on all measuring devices in packing lines
Develop and update instrumentation schematics and documentation for validation and compliance
Diagnose and rectify instrumentation faults to minimise process interruptions
Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance automation and data acquisition in packing operations
Drive performance management through clear standards, KPI reviews and monitoring
Maintain CMMS discipline, accurate BOMs and KPI dashboards; ensure electricity reticulation and electrical equipment are legally compliant
Promote and enforce ABFS policies including SHERQ, Food Safety, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery & Corruption
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent
Degree in Electrical Engineering or BTech in Electrical Engineering
Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
Minimum 3–5 years in instrumentation maintenance for automated packing or processing plants
Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming and SCADA systems
Familiarity with SAP (ABF systems) is an added advantage
ZAQA-verified certificates required
