Key Responsibilities for the Mine Manager Role
The Mine Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all activities within the mine lease area. Core duties include:
- Ensuring full compliance with Mining Regulations, the Mines and Minerals Development Act, the Environmental Management Act, and other relevant statutory instruments.
- Managing safe and efficient mining operations, including open pit management, drilling and blasting, coal haulage, mine de-watering, waste dump and stockpile management, haul road and fleet supervision, as well as fire control.
- Conducting mine survey activities such as mine planning, implementation, stock measurement, and pre-level surveys.
- Overseeing the Mine Geology department and Mine Laboratory functions, including stock quality control.
- Supervising plant operations to ensure efficient processing of stockpiles into final products for customer delivery.
- Preparing and submitting regular reports, including weekly updates, to senior management.
- Reporting all safety incidents involving injuries promptly while taking immediate action to provide assistance and relief.
- Providing leadership and managerial oversight for all mine site operations, including recruitment, training, procurement, and equipment maintenance.
Qualifications and Experience Required
Applicants for mine manager jobs in Lusaka must meet the following professional criteria:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in mining, engineering, geology, mining science, or a related discipline.
- Experience: At least three years of experience in the mining industry, with proven expertise in open cast mining at a managerial level or equivalent.
- International exposure in mining related to thermal power production is considered an advantage.
- Possession of relevant and valid statutory licenses or certificates required for mine operations.
