Huachen International Supply Chain Limited is actively seeking a qualified Hydroelectric Project Manager to join our Construction Department in Ndola, Copperbelt, Zambia. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to lead and manage water and electricity construction, maintenance, and repair projects within our organization.
Position Overview: Hydroelectric Project Manager
The primary responsibility of the Hydroelectric Project Manager is to oversee the company’s water and electricity infrastructure projects, ensuring effective management of equipment, adherence to safety standards, and timely completion of construction and maintenance tasks. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Chinese engineers and local authorities to support project planning, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage water and electricity equipment during company projects and respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues.
- Assist Chinese engineers with planning, budgeting, and application processes for new and renovation projects involving water and electricity systems.
- Coordinate with local authorities such as ZESCO, WARMA, and Local Water Utilities to secure necessary approvals.
- Support the development of annual electricity consumption plans and consumables approval documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Zambian water and electricity construction regulations.
- Independently oversee ongoing hydropower construction projects, assigning tasks and supervising assistant engineers.
- Implement skill development and training programs for local hydropower construction teams.
- Assist in managing the proposed 320 kWp photovoltaic project alongside Chinese engineers.
Essential Requirements for Hydroelectric Project Manager Jobs in Ndola
- Proven practical skills in water and electricity maintenance and installation operations.
- Strong safety awareness with the ability to identify and mitigate potential equipment hazards.
- Experience repairing switch circuits and managing unexpected breakdowns effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and a high sense of responsibility.
- Knowledge of maintenance, repair, safe operation, and troubleshooting of generators, photovoltaics, transformers, water heaters, and pumps.
- Familiarity with photovoltaic substation construction standards and processes.
- Ability to quickly learn new construction standards and identify areas for personal improvement.
- Competence in independently preparing construction plans for hydropower projects and understanding the local materials market.
- Experience developing and implementing skills training and management plans for local construction teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant work experience, including at least 6 years managing construction, installation, and maintenance projects for water and electricity systems.
- Proven track record managing at least five hydropower construction projects and leading teams of 30 or more personnel.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, CAD software, and the ability to interpret electrical construction drawings and schematics.
- Established network with material suppliers and local power and water authorities.
- Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia is required.
- Willingness to reside onsite at company yards or construction sites during project execution.
- Residency in Ndola or readiness to relocate.
