Heavy Equipment Mechanic Jobs in Ndola – Mining & Earthmoving Equipment
PRIVATE MINING & CONSTRUCTION COMPANY invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Heavy Equipment Mechanic based in Ndola, Copperbelt, Zambia. This full-time role offers an opportunity for experienced professionals to contribute to mining and earthmoving operations by ensuring the optimal performance and safety of heavy machinery in demanding environments.
Position Overview
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for independently diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining heavy mining and earthmoving equipment both at project sites and in the workshop. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in diesel engines, hydraulic and drivetrain systems, electrical fault finding, and preventative maintenance. You will report to the Workshop Manager, Operations Manager, or Head Office and play a vital role in maintaining high equipment availability and operational uptime under pressure.
Key Responsibilities for Heavy Equipment Mechanic Jobs in Ndola
- Diagnose and repair faults on heavy mining and earthmoving machinery including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing to minimize downtime.
- Perform breakdown repairs both in workshop and field conditions, ensuring machines meet operational and safety standards.
- Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential mechanical failures before they escalate.
- Respond promptly to field breakdowns and emergencies using OEM diagnostic tools.
- Communicate effectively with operators, supervisors, and Head Office regarding machine performance and repair needs.
- Maintain accurate service, breakdown, and maintenance records, including parts usage and consumables.
- Ensure proper control and accountability of tools, workshop equipment, and consumables.
- Adhere strictly to company HSE standards and mine site safety procedures, including proper PPE use and lockout/isolation protocols.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Trade Certificate, Craft Certificate, or Degree in Heavy Equipment Repair, Diesel Mechanics, Earthmoving Equipment Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years proven experience in heavy equipment maintenance, mining equipment repairs, earthmoving equipment servicing, hydraulic and diesel systems, and field service operations.
- Proven ability to work on a variety of machinery, including Bell ADTs (B30 / B40 D & E Series), excavators, loaders, bulldozers, graders, water bowsers, tipper trucks, rollers, and compactors.
- Experience with Bell Equipment, Caterpillar, Volvo, or equivalent OEM machinery is highly advantageous.
- Strong technical competencies in diesel engine systems, hydraulics, drivetrain, electrical fault finding, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics.
- Proficiency in interpreting service manuals and technical documentation.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Excel, Word, email communication, and digital reporting systems.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to work on remote project and mine sites.
