Role Overview – Field Agronomist Jobs in Monze
The Field Agronomist will provide expert technical support to improve sustainable agricultural practices and climate resilience. This role involves working closely with farmers, cooperatives, and community groups to enhance productivity and livelihoods through training, research, and project implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver agronomic advice on crop selection, pest management, irrigation, and soil fertility.
- Promote climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming techniques.
- Conduct soil and crop assessments and support demonstration plots and farmer field schools.
- Participate in project design, seasonal planning, and ensure alignment with donor requirements.
- Coordinate distribution of farming inputs, seedlings, and agricultural equipment.
- Train farmers and community groups on improved agricultural practices and conservation agriculture.
- Collect and analyze agricultural production data; prepare technical and progress reports.
- Engage with government agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and traditional leaders to foster collaboration.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in agricultural programming or extension services, preferably with rural and vulnerable communities.
- Knowledge of climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and donor-funded project reporting.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies and a valid driver’s license are advantages.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical expertise in crop production and agronomy.
- Effective training, facilitation, and community mobilization skills.
- Proficient in data collection, report writing, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work in remote, outdoor environments under pressure.
- Highly resourceful, adaptable, and resilient.
Working Conditions
The position requires frequent travel to rural and remote communities, exposure to outdoor working conditions, and the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
