The Junior Electrical Engineer will play a key role in safely executing electrical maintenance and installation work in compliance with company standards and statutory requirements. This position supports the efficient operation of electrical systems critical to mining activities.

Key Responsibilities for Junior Electrical Engineer Jobs in Solwezi

• Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, quality, financial, and human resource policies and regulations relevant to the role.
• Install new electrical systems and replace outdated or faulty equipment following company and vendor safety and quality standards.
• Ensure and document electrical safety settings and hardware interlocks to guarantee safe and effective equipment operation.
• Follow planned and preventative maintenance schedules to minimize production disruption.
• Supervise electrical maintenance activities performed by subordinates.
• Maintain accurate records and compile detailed reports on activities, costs, and labor.
• Promptly report all incidents to the Superintendent and ensure safety logbooks are properly maintained.
• Manage stock levels of electrical equipment in the warehouse, creating new stock for critical items to avoid production delays.
• Oversee the safe use and replacement of hand tools and electrical test equipment within the section.
• Coordinate and provide necessary training to ensure compliance with safety standards and statutory requirements.
• Identify and facilitate specialized training needs.
• Manage transport resources under your control, ensuring all service requests are fulfilled and equipment operated only with official permits.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Electrical Supervisor.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Valid low-voltage (LV) driver’s license.
• At least two years’ experience as an engineer in a mining environment.
• Strong knowledge of LV systems, motor control centers (MCCs), and electrical protection.
• Familiarity with LV and medium-voltage (MV) transformers.
• Experience maintaining electrical motors and overhead cranes.
• Understanding of variable speed drives, soft starters, and direct-on-line (DOL) starters.
• Proficient in using electrical measuring instruments and reading electrical drawings.
• Computer literacy.
• Leadership or supervisory training is an advantage.
• All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
