Job Title: ESG Manager
Location: Lusaka, Zambia
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary
The ESG Manager is responsible for leading the implementation and continuous improvement of the organization’s ESG strategy. This role ensures the company meets regulatory reporting requirements, drives sustainability performance, and integrates ESG principles across business operations. The position collaborates with internal departments, external stakeholders, and senior leadership to advance corporate responsibility objectives and create tangible business value.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development and Execution
– Develop and implement comprehensive ESG strategies aligned with international standards such as ISSB, CSRD, GRI, and TCFD.
– Define long-term sustainability goals and short-term action plans, including greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and net-zero roadmaps.
– Integrate ESG considerations into core business functions, including operations, supply chain, finance, and product development.

Reporting and Disclosure
– Oversee annual ESG reporting, ensuring compliance with mandatory and voluntary disclosure frameworks, including CSRD, SECR, EcoVadis, CDP, and UN Global Compact.
– Prepare ESG-related information for annual reports, regulatory filings, and investor communications.

Environmental Management
– Lead carbon accounting and emissions data collection.
– Drive environmental compliance with ISO 14001 and other relevant certifications.
– Manage environmental risk assessments, supply chain sustainability engagement, and waste reduction initiatives.

Social Value and Governance
– Develop and implement social value strategies, including community engagement, volunteering programs, and CSR initiatives.
– Conduct environmental and social due diligence for new investments, projects, or acquisitions.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
– Design and deliver internal training programs to raise ESG awareness across the organization.
– Build and maintain relationships with investors, regulators, NGOs, and sustainability partners.
– Coordinate cross-functional working groups and committees to drive ESG initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience
– Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Business Administration, Finance, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
– Minimum 10+ years of relevant professional experience in ESG management, corporate sustainability, environmental risk, or related roles.
– Proven track record of managing ESG reporting, carbon accounting, and sustainability strategy implementation.
– Familiarity with sustainability standards such as ISO 14001, IFC Performance Standards, or EU Taxonomy.
– Strong analytical skills for carbon accounting, data analysis, and KPI tracking.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholder audiences.
– Strong project management and organizational abilities.
– Ability to influence and collaborate across functions without direct authority.
– Strategic thinking with commercial acumen to connect ESG initiatives to business value.
– High ethical integrity, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving mindset.
– English proficiency as a working language is mandatory for most international roles.
