About the Role: Welding Superintendent Jobs in Kalumbila
Reporting directly to the LME Manager, the Welding Superintendent will oversee all welding, fabrication, machining, and structural repair activities for the Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) fleet. You will lead a diverse team of welding supervisors, tradespeople, engineers, and apprentices to ensure high-quality maintenance and repair standards are met.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring, and supervising welding supervisors, boilermakers, welders, machinists, engineers, and apprentices.
- Planning and allocating daily welding resources for preventative, predictive, and breakdown maintenance tasks.
- Overseeing welding and fabrication on equipment such as haul truck frames, dump bodies, excavator booms, dozer blades, and wheel loader components.
- Managing line-boring and machining operations on equipment and components.
- Implementing and monitoring non-destructive testing (NDT) programs, including ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant inspections.
- Ensuring all repairs comply with OEM and Lumwana Mining Company specifications.
- Collaborating with maintenance planners and reliability engineers to schedule welding work during planned downtime.
- Introducing and adopting new welding technologies such as CNC plasma cutting, automated welding systems, and drone-assisted inspections.
- Managing the welding repair budget, including labour, consumables, and contractor services.
Candidate Requirements for Welding Superintendent Jobs in Kalumbila
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Advanced Certificate in Welding and Metal Fabrication, or a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of post-trade experience in welding heavy earthmoving equipment.
- Minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in a coordinator or superintendent role.
- 6G certification in pipe and plate welding is a distinct advantage.
- Familiarity with SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order tracking.
- Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
- Possession of an unrestricted Class B driver’s license.
