Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

Welding and Fabrication

Perform welding using methods such as arc welding (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and gas welding, as required.
Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures, frames, brackets, guards, and components.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
Cut, shape, and prepare metal using hand tools, grinders, cutting torches, or plasma cutters.
Ensure welds meet required strength, dimensional accuracy, and finish standards.

Carry out welding repairs on machinery, vehicles, trailers, plant equipment, and structural installations.
Assist in preventative maintenance activities by reinforcing or repairing worn or damaged components.
Identify potential structural or welding defects and report them to the Supervisor.

Quality Control

Inspect completed welds for defects such as cracks, distortion, or incomplete fusion.
Correct welding faults and re-work items that do not meet quality requirements.
Maintain consistent workmanship in line with company and industry standards.

Health, Safety, and Housekeeping

Comply with all occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Use appropriate  PPE ( welding helmet, gloves, goggles,  protective clothing) at all times.
Ensure safe handling and storage of gas cylinders, welding rods, and equipment.
Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work area.

Equipment and Material Management

Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and machinery in good working condition.
Report equipment faults or maintenance needs promptly.
Minimise material waste and ensure efficient use of welding consumables.

Minimum Requirements Qualifications

Recognised Welder Trade Certificate or equivalent technical qualification
Valid welding certifications (advantageous)
Basic safety training (e.g. fire prevention, gas handling)

Experience

Minimum of 2–5 years’ practical welding experience
Experience in industrial, agricultural, automotive, or heavy-equipment environments (advantageous)

Technical Skills

Proficiency in multiple welding techniques
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Knowledge of different metals and welding consumables
Competence in using cutting, grinding, and measuring tools
