Reporting directly to the Lead Host, the Trainee Host will play a vital role in ensuring our guests receive impeccable service throughout their stay. This full-time position demands a passionate and professional approach to hospitality, with a focus on maintaining the high standards that Thorntree River Lodge is known for.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare all meal settings in line with lodge standard style guides prior to guest arrival.
• Welcome guests upon arrival at the lodge and after activities, ensuring a warm and friendly reception.
• Deliver guest service according to established service guidelines, balancing attentiveness without being intrusive.
• Assist guests before morning activities by providing essentials such as water, sunscreen, and cameras, and see them off courteously.
• Prepare welcome packs and personalized notes for arriving guests.
• Collect and communicate guest feedback to management, highlighting both positive comments and areas for improvement.
• Maintain updated information boards at the back of house with details on arrivals, departures, dietary requirements, flights, and meal seating arrangements.
• Conduct guest check-ins following lodge protocols and provide comprehensive lodge orientation.
• Host the afternoon high tea service.
• Complete daily front-of-house checklists to ensure smooth operations.
• Maintain a professional and presentable appearance at all times.
• Confirm wake-up calls and departure times with guests for the following day.
• Adhere strictly to all lodge safety protocols to ensure guest and staff wellbeing.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completed Grade 12 certificate.
• Diploma in Hospitality Studies or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ relevant experience, preferably within the safari hospitality sector.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Excel and other office software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills combined with a professional and courteous attitude.
