We are seeking a dedicated Technician, Instrumentation to join our team in the North West Province of Zambia. About the Role: Technician, Instrumentation
As an Instrumentation Technician at First Quantum Minerals, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation equipment critical to plant operations. Your expertise will help minimize equipment downtime and maximize availability, ensuring smooth and efficient production processes.
You will also be tasked with delivering comprehensive Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules, maintaining accurate administration, and providing technical support to both the Engineering and Processing departments.
Key Responsibilities for Instrumentation Technician Jobs in Kalumbila
- Install, set up, calibrate, and maintain a wide range of field instrumentation devices used in automated processing plants.
- Calibrate, certify, maintain, and troubleshoot Process Automation (PA) devices, including density and conveyor belt scale systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot weighbridge systems to ensure operational accuracy.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors to support plant operations.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency with Field Bus systems, particularly Profibus (DP & PA) and Modbus protocols.
- Experience with Siemens S7 PLC hardware installation and troubleshooting.
- Strong aptitude in field instrumentation installation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis.
- Detail-oriented with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to shift work, standby duties, and overtime as required.
- Fluency in English and a valid Zambian driver’s license for light vehicles.
- Willingness to work in environments exposed to dust, noise, and other elements.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ post-qualification experience in automated industrial processing plants.
- Practical experience with crushers, conveyors, milling, flotation circuits, reagent and concentrate areas, thickeners, and water and air services is an advantage.
- Diploma in an instrumentation-related field.
- Registration as an Instrumentation Technologist with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Licensing by the Zambian Water and Mining Authority (ZWMA) and possession of ZAQA-accredited certifications.
