Time + Tide is seeking an experienced Technical Service Manager to lead and coordinate all technical and maintenance operations across five remote safari camps based in Kapani, Mfuwe, South Luangwa. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity for a skilled technical professional to ensure operational efficiency, safety compliance, and asset longevity in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Role Overview for Technical Service Manager Jobs in Mfuwe

The Technical Service Manager will be responsible for overseeing workshop management, preventative maintenance, infrastructure upkeep, fleet maintenance, and the management of solar, electrical, and refrigeration systems. The role demands a hands-on leader who can maintain the highest standards of technical support across all camps, ensuring seamless operations and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Operations Management: Supervise maintenance and technical services across five safari camps. Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to maintain operational efficiency and compliance. Quickly respond to technical breakdowns to reduce disruptions.
  • Electrical & Solar Systems Management: Oversee electrical installations and solar power systems including battery banks, inverters, and backup power. Conduct fault diagnosis and ensure all systems meet safety standards.
  • Refrigeration & Cold Chain Management: Manage maintenance of refrigeration units, cold rooms, freezers, ice machines, and air-conditioning to support food and beverage operations. Coordinate with external specialists as necessary.
  • Fleet & Equipment Maintenance: Manage servicing and repairs of safari vehicles, generators, pumps, engines, and boats. Maintain workshop procedures and accurate maintenance records.
  • Workshop & Stores Management: Lead the central workshop at Kapani Camp, supervise staff, maintain tools and equipment, and manage stock control for technical spares and consumables. Work closely with procurement on logistics and supply replenishment.
  • Infrastructure & General Maintenance: Ensure upkeep of guest rooms, lodge facilities, staff housing, camp structures, plumbing, water, sewer systems, and access infrastructure. Coordinate refurbishment and upgrades as required.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety policies and promote safe maintenance practices. Conduct inspections, risk assessments, and manage hazardous materials safely.
  • Administration & Reporting: Keep detailed maintenance logs and technical documentation. Prepare monthly reports and assist with budgeting and cost control measures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Refrigeration, or related fields preferred; trade certification is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar technical management role.
  • Experience in remote lodge, hospitality, safari, mining, or construction environments preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary maintenance operations.
  • Strong knowledge of solar systems, electrical installations, refrigeration, diesel engines, generators, pumps, plumbing, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in remote settings with strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly between camps.
