The Superintendent Geology reports to the Geology Manager and is a key member of the Mine Technical Services Team and Geology Department. The incumbent will use their geoscientific knowledge, leadership and management skills to support, guide and direct geological activities that develop value for mining and processing. The purpose of this role is to plan and oversee geological work program at FQM Trident, manage and support the geology team to facilitate and ensure effective and efficient work execution. The Superintendent Geology will engage and work closely with various teams and stakeholders across the mine value chain

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and implementation of integrated multi-disciplinary data collection programmes in collaboration with other functional entities (e.g. Mine planning, Drill & Blast, Load & Haul, Mineral Processing, Geotechnical, and Hydro-geological)
  • Ensure quality control standards are adhered to by relevant stakeholders when managing; stockpiling, blending strategies and ore processing.
  • Administer geological personnel and teams (career planning and development, training and mentoring, performance reviews and management, etc.)
  • Ensure timely logistics support for efficient execution of work programmes.
  • Planning and organizing all in-pit ore control activities – including but not limited to drilling, sampling, blast levelling, dig-plan markouts, production tallying, mine design compliance and floor cleaning;
  • Ensure adequate supervision of both FQM and Business Partner/Contractors during ore control drilling and sampling to ensure that quality is guaranteed during the data gathering stage of the ore control process;
  • Managing geological reporting, governance, and compliance with industry reporting standards such as JORC, SAMREC, and NI 43-101.
  • Assisting with departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Driving technical excellence and implementing best-practice geological systems and procedures

Required Job Experience

  • A minimum 8-year relevant operational experience with at least 3 years of management experience in a senior position in a geology or MTS team.
  • Copper and nickel, base metal geology and mineralization styles. With experience in structurally controlled sediment hosted deposits or Central African Copper Belt geology considered highly desirable.
  • At least 5 years Open pit production experience with a good understanding of mine engineering practices
  • Demonstrated project management experience – minimum 3 years

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geoscience, Applied Geology, Earth Sciences
  • Post Graduate Degree in; Geology, Economic Geology, Mineral Resource Management, Geostatistics, or Mining Geology will be an added advantage
  • Membership of a Recognized International Professional Organization
  • Membership to the Engineer’s Institute of Zambia
