Position: Staff Cook

Employment Type: Full-Time

Dogtech Security is seeking a reliable, experienced, and hardworking Staff Cook to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and cooking of meals for staff and the preparation of meals and food for the company’s K9s, while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness, stock control, and kitchen management.

Cook will live on site with allocated off days.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Preparing and cooking all daily meals for staff at the Kennel Base.
  • Preparing and cooking meals and food according to the nutritional requirements and established feeding schedules of all Dogtech K9s.
  • Following approved menus, recipes, portion sizes, preparation methods, and feeding instructions.
  • Ensuring that all meals are prepared and served in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen and food preparation environment.
  • Adhering to all applicable food safety, health, hygiene, and sanitation requirements.
  • Ensuring proper handling, storage, preparation, and disposal of food and food waste.
  • Maintaining strict personal hygiene and ensuring appropriate food-handling practices at all times.
  • Receiving, checking, storing, and managing food supplies and kitchen-related stock.
  • Maintaining accurate stock records and monitoring stock levels to prevent shortages, wastage, spoilage, or unnecessary over-ordering.
  • Applying proper stock rotation principles, including First-In, First-Out (FIFO) procedures where applicable.
  • Conducting regular checks of food stock, expiry dates, and storage conditions.
  • Reporting low stock levels, damaged goods, expired products, wastage, and any other stock discrepancies.
  • Ensuring all food items and supplies are properly labelled and securely stored.
  • Working closely with the Head of Procurement regarding food requirements, stock levels, purchasing needs, and inventory control.
  • Providing timely reports to the Head of Procurement regarding stock usage and anticipated requirements.
  • Keeping accurate records of food consumption and stock movement as required.
  • Assisting with the preparation of food requisitions and stock requests.
  • Ensuring that kitchen equipment, utensils, refrigerators, freezers, and food preparation areas are kept clean and properly maintained.
  • Reporting damaged or malfunctioning kitchen equipment immediately.
  • Ensuring that meals for staff and K9s are prepared strictly according to approved recipes and instructions.
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding company operations and internal matters.
  • Complying with all Dogtech Security policies, procedures, rules, and instructions.
  • Performing any other reasonable duties related to catering, food preparation, kitchen operations, K9 feeding, health and hygiene, stock control, and stores management as may be assigned by management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have:

  • Previous experience working as a Cook, Chef, Kitchen Assistant, or similar position.
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing meals for multiple people.
  • Experience in food preparation and kitchen operations.
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene, health, and sanitation practices.
  • Experience with food stock control, inventory management, or stores management will be an advantage.
  • Ability to follow menus, recipes, portion controls, and specific food preparation instructions.
  • Ability to prepare meals consistently and efficiently.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good record-keeping and stock management skills.
  • Physically fit and able to perform the duties required in a busy kitchen and kennel-base environment.
  • Honest, reliable, disciplined, and trustworthy.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Certificate or qualification in Food Preparation, Cookery, Hospitality, Catering, or a related field.
  • Formal training in food safety and hygiene.
  • Previous experience working in a camp, lodge, boarding facility, agricultural operation, or similar environment.
  • Experience preparing food for working dogs or animals will be an added advantage.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Staff Cook will report directly to the Head of Procurement and will work closely with management and relevant operational staff to ensure the efficient provision of staff meals and K9 food requirements.
