Job description
The Solar Technician will be responsible for carrying out routine and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of Solar PV Assets. The role ensures reliable plant operation, safety compliance, and achievement of energy generation targets. The job holder will report to the Operations & Maintenance Engineer.
Key Accountabilities
Perform scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on solar PV systems, inverters, switchgear, transformers, and associated electrical equipment.
Conduct routine plant inspections, performance checks, and identify potential faults.
Support the safe energization, isolation, and restoration of electrical systems during maintenance.
Assist in inverter parameter checks, string current measurements, and insulation resistance testing.
Diagnose and repair faults in PV strings, connectors, inverters and monitoring system
Ensure timely response to alarms and system breakdowns to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with other technicians and engineers to resolve complex technical issues.
Support real-time monitoring of plant performance via SCADA or data acquisition systems.
Assist in performance data collection.
Recommend technical improvements to enhance plant efficiency and reliability.
Ensure all maintenance works complies with safety, quality, and operational standards.
Ensure strict adherence to company health, safety, and environmental policies.
To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:
Minimum Advanced Certificate in Electrical
Certificate in Solar PV O&M will be an added advantage.
Registered member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical maintenance in power generation or industrial plant environment
Strong understanding of solar PV electrical systems and maintenance best practices.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings
Basic knowledge in MS office
Valid driver’s license and ready to travel between sites
