Position reports to:                          Coordinator, Production – South East Dome

Grade:                                                16

Direct reports:                                  Area Supervisors, Production – South East Dome

 

Purpose

The Shift Supervisor, Production – South East Dome is responsible for supervising day-to-day load and haul operations during assigned shifts, ensuring safe and efficient execution of mining activities aligned with shift targets and operational standards. The role provides frontline leadership to a production crew and ensures optimal equipment usage, safety compliance, and adherence to production schedules.

 

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
Supervise production crews during shifts, including truck and shovel operators, spotters, and support equipment operators.
Monitor and manage shift production targets, coordinating with dispatch and technical teams to ensure efficient haulage and loading.
Conduct pre-shift meetings and safety briefings; reinforce safety standards and corrective actions where needed.
Promote and maintain high standards of workplace discipline, motivation, and crew development.
Report and log equipment performance, shift activities, production data, and any incidents accurately and timely.
Inspect work areas and equipment to ensure safe, clean, and productive conditions.
Provide feedback to the Coordinator and Maintenance teams on equipment availability, breakdowns, and performance issues.
Act as the first point of contact for resolving minor operational or personnel issues during the shift.
Ensure that operational instructions are clearly understood and implemented by the crew.
Participate in investigations of incidents, near misses, and equipment damages.
Perform other duties as required to support production operations.

 

Qualifications

Grade 12 Certificate
Diploma in Mining, Mineral Science, or related qualification (minimum)
Valid Blasting License
First Aid Certificate
Driver’s License

 

Experience

Minimum 3 years’ experience in open-pit mining, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or team lead role
Practical understanding of open-pit production processes and heavy equipment operations (trucks, shovels, dozers, etc.)
Solid knowledge of mining operations, rules, and safety regulations
Demonstrated leadership in a production environment
Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced mining environment
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Proficiency in using PCs and relevant mining software systems
Familiarity with fleet management or dispatch systems (e.g., Modular, Wenco)
