Job description

Kalonga Logistics Limited, a specialized contractor for Lumwana Mining Company based in Kalumbila District, is seeking a qualified Safety Officer to join the team.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To establish, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures to create a hazard-free work environment, ensuring compliance with legal standards to prevent accidents, injuries, and fatalities.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

Report: Safety Coordinator

Location: Kalumbila, Northwestern Province

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø To promote and work with managers in determining safe working practices, ensuring that all work areas have suitable and sufficient risk assessments for their operations and activities and effective risk control measures are in place

Ø To maintain up to date knowledge of current and new legislative requirements, relating to health and safety issues, in order to interpret, evaluate and advise management on the implications of such legislation on service delivery

Ø Undertake planned health and safety audits and workplace inspections in order to ensure compliance with regulations and procedures.

Ø Carry out investigations of all incidents and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.

Ø To maintain, review and revise first aid arrangements, organising appropriate training as necessary.

Ø Assist with creating and updating workplace safety policies.

REQUIREMENTS

Ø Full Grade 12 Certificate

Ø Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or Environmental Science

Ø Proven experience as a Safety Officer, typically 3+ years, preferably in mining industry settings.

Ø Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA (10/30-hour), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or BOSH training.

Ø In-depth knowledge of safety legislation, regulations, and industry-specific hazards.
