Job Title: Safety and Heath Officer
Grade: ZMP
Department: Human Resource
Location: Zampalm HQs, Kanchibiya
Tenure: 3 years Contract
2.0 Job Description.
The Safety and Health Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, visitors, and contractors. This includes identifying and mitigating hazards, developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, and providing training and guidance to employees.
3.0 Duties and Responsibilities
KEY RESULT AREAS
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES(DUTIES)
Safety inspections and record keeping
Conduct regular safety inspections of the workplace to identify potential hazards and report findings to the Human Resource Manager.
Risk Assessments
Identify and assess potential hazards in the workplace and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate them.
Safety Policies and Procedures
Create and update safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant Safety laws and regulations.
Records
Keep accurate and up-to-date records of safety incidents, training, and inspections.
Training
Delivery of orientations and safety trainings to employees.
Support
Provide safety support to employees, including answering safety-related questions and providing guidance on safety procedures.
Incident investigation
Investigation of workplace incidents, including injuries, illnesses, and near-misses.
Maintenance
Ensure that safety equipment and supplies are maintained and readily available.
Compliance
Assist with ensuring compliance with relevant safety and health laws, regulations, and industry standards
4.0 Reporting Relationships
Reports to: Human Resource Manager
4.1 Number and Level of Immediate Subordinates
4 x Assistant Safety officers
Knowledge and Skill Levels
A strong understanding of safety and health laws and regulations including OSHE, EPA, and industry-specific standards.
Minimum Primary/ Secondary Education:
Full Grade 12 GCE Level Certificate or GCSE
5.2 Minimum Vocational/Professional Qualifications
A minimum of Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is required.
Must be a member of the Zambia Occupational Safety and Health Environment (OSHE)
5.3 Certifications:
Relevant Certifications
Minimum Relevant Work Experience:
At least a minimum of 3 years of experience in Safety and Health or any related field
5.5 Desired Attributes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to analyse data, identify hazards, and develop effective solutions is critical.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, excel and PowerPoint
