Job description

Job Objective

To execute the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework at an operational level by systematically identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting risks across all business units, ensuring adherence to risk appetite, strengthening internal controls, and supporting proactive risk mitigation in line with regulatory and institutional requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

I. Risk Identification, Assessment & Register Management

·      Conduct structured Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) across all departments on a periodic basis (quarterly/bi-annual).

·      Facilitate risk identification workshops with business units to capture all significant and material risks.

·      Maintain and continuously update the enterprise risk register, ensuring accurate classification of risks and proper documentation of risk causes, impacts, and mitigating controls

·      Support risk scoring using approved methodology.

II. Risk Monitoring, KRIs & Early Warning Signals

·      Monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) across all key risk categories:

·      Track performance against Risk Appetite thresholds and immediately escalate breaches.

·      Perform trend and variance analysis, highlighting: Deterioration in portfolio quality and Increase in operational losses or control failures. Support development of Early Warning Indicators (EWIs).

III. Incident, Loss Event & Fraud Risk Management

·      Maintain a centralized incident and loss event database covering: Fraud incidents, System failures and Process breakdowns.

·      Ensure all incidents are: Logged within defined timelines and Classified using severity criteria (Low / Medium / Critical)

·      Conduct root cause analysis and document contributing factors.

·      Monitor repeat incidents and escalate systemic issues.

IV. Risk Reporting

·      Prepare periodic reports, including: Monthly risk dashboard, Incident reports, KRI performance summaries, and Quarterly Management Reports.

·      Highlight key risk issues, root causes, and recommended actions.

·      Ensure reports are: Accurate, timely and Action-oriented

V. Market Intelligence – Gather and relay market feedback, competitor activity, and client needs to inform product development and strategic marketing initiatives.

VI. Branch, Credit & Operational Risk Monitoring -Monitor branch-level risk indicators, including: Compliance with credit underwriting standards, Loan exceptions and overrides, Delinquency trends and unusual growth patterns. Review reconciliation processes, including: Bank reconciliations, digital and card services transaction and General ledger discrepancies. Conduct credit reviews and provide risk opinions on large ticket loans before approval.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with credits in English and Mathematics.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience in a Non-Bank Financial Institution (NBFI) or Microfinance environment is highly desirable.
  • Advanced analytical skills, including financial modeling and data interpretation.
