The Zambian Government through the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment (MGEE) developed a project called Climate Change Adaptation in Forest and Agricultural Mosaic Landscapes” supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The Project is being implemented by the Food and Agricultural organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) as a GEF agency and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) as an executing entity. The Project is being implemented in two Provinces namely; Eastern and Western Provinces.

The WWF is one of the largest and most well-known international conservation organizations in the world. It was founded in 1961 and headquartered in Gland, Switzerland. WWF’s mission is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. WWF works in collaboration with governments, businesses, local communities, and other organizations to address issues such as climate change, deforestation, habitat destruction, overfishing, and illegal wildlife trade. In addition to conservation efforts, WWF conducts scientific research, provides technical expertise, and collaborates with communities to develop sustainable livelihoods. They also engage in public outreach and education programs to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote individual action. Overall, WWF’s work is guided by the belief that people and nature can thrive together, and they strive to find solutions that benefit both. They operate in more than 100 countries and have a network of offices and projects around the world.

The GEF is an international financial institution that provides grants for projects that address global environmental issues. GEF was established in 1991 as a partnership between various United Nations agencies, international financial institutions, and governments. GEF operates as a financial mechanism for several international environmental conventions, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).The primary objective of the GEF is to support projects that promote the conservation of biodiversity, the sustainable management of forests, the mitigation of climate change, the protection of international waters, and the prevention of land degradation.
