Job description:

Reliability Engineering

• Develop and continuously improve reliability strategies for TSF assets.
• Facilitate Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies and reviews.
• Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) for critical assets.
• Identify reliability risks and recommend mitigation measures.
• Perform Weibull and reliability statistical analysis where applicable.
• Develop reliability models and maintenance improvement plans.
• Monitor asset performance and establish asset health indicators.
• Provide technical guidance to maintenance and operations teams on reliability matters.

Asset Health Monitoring

• Monitor equipment health using predictive maintenance technologies.
• Evaluate data obtained from vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasonic testing and non-destructive testing (NDT).
• Develop condition monitoring programs for critical TSF assets.
• Identify early warning signs of equipment degradation and recommend corrective action.
• Monitor performance of pipelines, pumps, valves, pontoon systems, decant systems and dam infrastructure.
• Support development of digital asset health and condition monitoring systems.

Defect Elimination and Root Cause Failure Analysis

• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for significant equipment failures.
• Facilitate cross-functional failure investigation workshops.
• Develop corrective and preventive actions following asset failures.
• Maintain defect elimination registers and track implementation progress.
• Identify bad actors and develop improvement plans to improve reliability.
• Conduct trend analysis of recurring failures and downtime events.

Preventive Maintenance Optimization

• Develop and execute Preventive Maintenance Optimization (PMO) initiatives.
• Review maintenance strategies to ensure alignment with failure modes.
• Optimize preventive maintenance intervals based on equipment performance data.
• Ensure maintenance strategies are cost effective and reliability focused.
• Review work instructions and maintenance procedures for effectiveness.
• Support continuous improvement of maintenance plans and standard job procedures.

Asset Strategy Management

• Develop and maintain equipment strategies for all TSF assets.
• Maintain equipment criticality assessments.
• Review asset management plans and update strategies based on operational experience.
• Develop long-term equipment replacement and refurbishment plans.
• Support Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) for critical assets.
• Ensure maintenance and reliability strategies comply with business objectives.

Reliability Reporting and KPI Management

• Develop and maintain reliability dashboards and reports.
• Monitor and report on:
  • MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)
  • MTTR (Mean Time to Repair)
  • Equipment Availability
  • Reliability Growth
  • Schedule Compliance
  • Maintenance Cost Performance
  • Defect Elimination Performance
• Prepare weekly and monthly reliability reports.
• Utilize Power BI and other analytical tools to visualize reliability performance.

Risk Management and Compliance

• Support risk assessments relating to TSF operations.
• Assist in the development of risk-based maintenance strategies.
• Ensure compliance with:
  • Company standards
  • GISTM requirements
  • Dam safety requirements
  • Environmental regulations
  • Asset management standards
• Support internal and external audits.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and maintenance effectiveness.
• Lead reliability improvement projects.
• Benchmark reliability practices against industry standards.
• Support digital transformation initiatives.
• Promote a culture of reliability and continuous improvement across TSF operations.

Job Specific Competencies

• Strong understanding of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
• Competent in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Knowledge of FMEA/FMECA methodology.
• Sound knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies.
• Understanding of asset integrity management.
• Knowledge of reliability statistics and data analysis.
• Experience with condition monitoring technologies.
• Proficiency in CMMS/ERP systems such as Pronto or SAP.
• Competent in Power BI, Excel and data analytics.
• Ability to develop maintenance strategies and asset management plans.
• Strong technical report writing skills.

Experience Required to Perform in this Job

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Engineering or Asset Management.
• Experience within mining, mineral processing or heavy industry.
• Experience with fixed plant assets and infrastructure.
• Demonstrated experience with:
  • RCM
  • RCA
  • FMEA/FMECA
  • Asset Criticality Assessment
  • Predictive Maintenance Technologies
• Experience utilizing ERP/CMMS systems.
• Experience with asset health monitoring platforms, SCADA, PI Systems and databases.
• Experience in TSF, Water Dams or pumping systems will be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Full Grade 12 Certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
• Registered Engineer or Engineering Technologist will be an added advantage.
• Certification in Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Management or Asset Management will be advantageous.
• CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) certification will be an added advantage.
• Training in RCA, FMEA, RCM and Condition Monitoring technologies will be advantageous.
