CALL FOR PROJECT OFFICER

Location: Choma, Southern Province

The German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) has provided technical support for the groundwater resource management and development sector in Zambia since 2005. The technical cooperation aims to improve the capacities of groundwater resources management in Zambia regarding water supply and the protection of groundwater resources. The current project phase titled “Integrated Water Management for Increased Climate Resilience in the Southern Province” started in June of 2024 and will run until May 2028. In this regard, BGR wishes to hire a Project Officer for the Implementation of groundwater activities and representation of BGR in Choma.

One (1) year contract duration, starting from the 1st of August 2025 to the 31st of September 2026. Based on the performance of the candidate, there is an option for an extension of the contract up to the end of the project in 2028.

Tasks:

Planning and preparation of large field campaigns with support from the project staff in Lusaka and in consultation with our project partners
Regular groundwater sampling and groundwater level measurements in cooperation with Southern Water Supply and Sanitation Company (SWASCO) and the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation which will include a training-on-the- job approach
Representation of BGR in Choma, including project presentations, preparing of delegation visits and office organisation
Organization and facilitation of a regular exchange with the partner institutions
Management and processing of all collected data
Preparation of technical and project progress reports in coordination with the partners

Requirements:

Degree in hydro(geo)logy, water resources management, or similar
Minimum 5 years of work experience in groundwater investigations
Minimum 5 years of experience in writing reports related to the water sector
Good knowledge of GIS and MS Office

Key Attributes:

Ability to coordinate activities independently required to support the successful implementation of the project activities
Ability to facilitate training and workshops with a diverse group of technical stakeholders
Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with dynamic and diverse staff and management across all internal and external levels
High Motivation to work in a team reporting to the Head of Project Structured and disciplined way of working
