Job description

1. Project Planning & Coordination

  • Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure material and equipment availability for seamless execution.
  • Monitor project progress and address potential risks proactively.

2. Supervision & Team Management

  • Lead and manage fiber optic installation teams.
  • Assign tasks and ensure proper workflow efficiency.
  • Monitor workforce productivity and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

3. Installation & Maintenance Oversight

  • Oversee fiber optic cable ADSS installation, splicing, and termination.
  • Ensure proper cable routing to minimize signal loss and disruptions.
  • Supervise preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Catalogue and record all works on company systems.

4. Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with industry and company standards.
  • Perform inspections to verify the quality of installations.
  • Conduct OTDR and power meter tests to assess fiber performance.

5. Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving

  • Diagnose and resolve fiber optic faults and connectivity issues.
  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure quick restoration.
  • Implement strategies to minimize downtime and service disruptions.

6. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain records of fiber optic routes, test results, and project milestones.
  • Prepare progress reports and submit them to management.
  • Track inventory usage and order replenishments as needed-Fiber accessories.

7. Stakeholder Communication

  • Liaise with clients to ensure project expectations are agreed and met.
  • Provide regular updates on project status and potential challenges.
  • Address customer concerns and implement necessary corrective actions.
  • Obtain wayleaves from councils

8. Health & Safety Enforcement

  • Enforce adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement preventive measures.
  • Organize safety training for technicians and site workers.

Education

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, IT, Project Management, or a related discipline.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years’ experience in telecommunications, fibre infrastructure deployment, network projects, or a similar environment, with at least 1–2 years in project coordination.

Technical knowledge:

Good understanding of fibre optic installation, splicing, testing, fibre routes, ODFs, network infrastructure, and fibre deployment processes.

Project skills:

Ability to coordinate contractors and technical teams, track project progress, manage project documentation, monitor timelines and costs, prepare reports, and escalate risks/delays.

Computer skills:

Strong Microsoft Excel and MS Office skills. Experience with project management, GIS or network planning tools would be an advantage.

Personal competencies:

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, ability to work under pressure, and willingness to travel to project sites.
