The Key Purpose of this role is the operation of the process area according to work instructions, execution of non-destructive quality checks, and carrying out of routine maintenance. The Process Artisan has a primary focus on the asset care activities of the team to ensure process reliability, efficiency, and adherence to AB InBev standards.

 

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

 

Operating and Process Control

Operate the process area according to work instructions and adhere to usage standards.
Conduct quality checks as described in the quality control and analysis work practice.
Record waste on the appropriate documentation or information systems and review waste trends to identify problems or opportunities.
Continuously review process performance against target and complete short interval control documentation.
Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream triggers that may result in stoppages.
Apply problem-solving approaches as detailed in the problem-solving work practice.
Perform housekeeping tasks by applying 5S principles and following safe work practices.
Identify and correct unsafe work practices.
Assist fellow team members in executing their tasks.

 

Maintenance of Plant and Equipment

Carry out in-depth cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of machines as per maintenance schedules.
Execute routine maintenance activities and escalate larger problems to the team leader when necessary.
Participate in maintenance and cleaning days and maintenance post-mortems.
Support maintenance teams and comply with planner-issued schedules.
Monitor trends during routine maintenance and initiate corrective actions where required.
Perform non-destructive quality checks and record results on the appropriate systems.
Escalate unresolved quality or performance issues to the team leader for direction.

 

Quality Control and Analysis

Carry out non-destructive quality checks and analyses according to work instructions.
Record results accurately and communicate deviations promptly.
Identify and resolve quality deviations using the appropriate techniques or escalate when necessary.

 

Communication and Team Collaboration

Actively participate in shift meetings, raising questions and contributing improvement ideas.
Use the gap list to record issues, problems, and opportunities.
Fully understand team goals and participate in goal review sessions.
Utilize communication tools (e.g., shift logbooks) to ensure effective information sharing.
Support fellow team members and engage in feedback loops during shift handovers.

 

Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement

Apply appropriate techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, quick fix routines, fishbone analysis) to identify and correct problems.
Involve team members or escalate issues to the team leader where necessary.
Verify that corrective actions have resolved root causes and are sustainable.
Use control charts, Pareto analysis, and short stop analysis to identify sources of waste and variation.
Record improvement opportunities on the team gap list and involve other team members or specialists where needed.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize Mean Time Between Breakdowns (MTTB) and reduce Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).

 

 

Key Attributes & Competencies:

Strong mechanical or electrical problem-solving skills in FMCG environments.
Ability to communicate technical knowledge to operation staff, improving their capability.
Skilled in training, coaching, and mentoring operation teams on ATO and 5S principles.
Strong analytical ability with the capacity to identify non-standard work and defects.
Excellent understanding of machine technology, including sensors, bus systems (Asibus, Profibus, Canbus, Ethernet, Ethercat), and camera systems (for electrical and instrumentation roles).
Competent in identifying required spares, sourcing efficiently, and ensuring cost savings under ZBB principles.
Ability to interpret graphical data to improve performance.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Proficiency in using electronic devices (tablets, laptops, communication tools) for diagnostics and reporting.
Consistent application of safety practices and compliance with standards.
Self-driven, disciplined, and focused on operational excellence.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 (Matric).
Full Craft Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
Minimum of 2 years’ working experience in a manufacturing environment (FMCG preferred).
