Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Poultry Veterinarian to join our team on a full-time, farm-based basis. The ideal candidate must be registered with the Veterinary Council of Zambia and possess strong, hands-on experience in poultry health management, particularly with layer flocks and vaccination programmes.

Key Responsibilities
Manage the overall health and welfare of all poultry, with specific focus on layer flocks.
Develop, implement, and monitor flock health programs and vaccination schedules.
Administer all vaccines accurately and timely, ensuring full compliance with veterinary and farm biosecurity standards.
Conduct daily flock inspections and identify early signs of disease, stress, or abnormalities.
Diagnose, treat, and manage poultry diseases and health conditions.
Maintain accurate medical records, vaccination logs, and treatment reports.
Train and guide farm staff on biosecurity protocols, animal handling, and disease-prevention practices.
Ensure full compliance with the Veterinary Council of Zambia regulations.
Advise management on productivity, mortality trends, feed efficiency, and flock-health improvements.
Conduct regular biosecurity audits and implement corrective actions.
Participate in emergency outbreak response and containment procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM or equivalent).
Registered and in good standing with the Veterinary Council of Zambia.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in poultry veterinary practice, preferably in commercial layer operations.
Strong knowledge of poultry diseases, diagnostics, treatment, and vaccination protocols.
Hands-on experience managing and administering layer vaccines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Willingness to live or work full-time on the farm.
