2.0 Job Description

The Plantation Manager is the overall in charge of managing of Zampalm Limited Oil Palm Plantations and is responsible for the overall establishment and management of the oil palm plantations, the Pre nursery and Main Nursery. Planning of operations, Formulation of and Management of budgets, Crop Management, harvesting and resource optimization so as to increase the fresh fruit bunch per hectare (FFB)

3.0 Duties and Responsibilities

KEY RESULT AREA

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (MAIN DUTIES)

Management of Pre-Nursery, Main Nursery and Plantation

Oversee the overall management of oil palm plantations namely nursery establishment, crop management, harvesting

Improve Profitability

Develop and implement strategies to drive business growth, through increasing productivity and improve profitability

Operational Efficiency

Achieve operational efficiency by streamlining processes, cost reduction and enhancing productivity

Sustainability and adherence to Standards

Ensure oil palm plantations operate in a sustainable and responsible manner, complying with industry standards and specifications

Leadership

Provide leadership and management to other plantation staff including recruitment, training and performance management

Budget Optimization

Ensure that resources are used within the approved budget

Stakeholder Engagement

Engage with stakeholders to ensure plantations operate in a socially responsible manner

Risk Management

Develop and implement risk registers in order to identify and mitigate risks associated with plantations operations

Performance and Budget Management

Develop and manage departmental budgets and performance metrics

Research and Development

Lead Research and Development initiatives to improve yield, disease resistance and climate resistance

Management of Protection Activities

Manage and coordinate all the protection activities

Survey Activity Management

Direct and manage all survey work aimed at updating the land and plantation information

Generation and Submission of Reports

Generate and submit Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Annual progress review reports to CEO.

4.0 Reporting Relationships

Reports to: General manager

4.1 Number and Level of Immediate Subordinates

2 x Senior Superintendents

5.0 Knowledge and Skill Levels

Minimum Primary/ Secondary Education:

Full Grade 12 GCE O’Level Certificate or GCSE

5.2 Minimum Vocational/Professional Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry; Agroforestry; Agronomy; Soil Science

Masters Degree in the above-named fields will be added advantage

Member of a relevant body

Certifications:

Relevant trainings and certifications

Minimum Relevant Work Experience.

Minimum 5 years experience in managing plantation crops such as Oil Palm; Coffee; Cane Sugar; Tea; Pine; Eucalyptus, 3 years of which must be at senior management level

5.5 Desired Attributes

Certification in plantation management is an added advantage

Ability to meet deadlines

Proven leadership and management experience

Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Willing to work in a remote rural area
