NATIONAL BREWERIES PLC

National Breweries Plc, Zambia’s leading brewing company, is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and results-driven professional to join our Operations team as a Plant Accountant based in Kitwe and Lusaka.

Job Purpose

The Plant Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the brewery’s financial performance through effective cost control, financial reporting, inventory management, and compliance. The successful candidate will work closely with operational and finance teams to provide accurate financial information, drive process improvements, and support informed business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inventory counts and reconciliations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
  • Track manufacturing inputs and outputs against standards.
  • Investigate and resolve stock variances and inventory-related issues.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Analyze production cost variances and provide explanations for deviations.
  • Prepare production cost reports, variance reports, and departmental spending reports.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Assist in month-end financial close activities.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting accuracy.
  • Collaborate with production, operations, and supply chain teams to enhance data quality and efficiency.

Supplier, Debtors & Payroll Management

  • Ensure timely supplier payments and resolution of supplier queries.
  • Monitor and manage debtors through reconciliations and customer engagement.
  • Ensure payroll inputs are accurately captured and submitted on time in liaison with HR.

Compliance & Statutory Obligations

  • Ensure timely renewal of all applicable ZRA and local authority licences.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory requirements and escalate legal matters when necessary.

Team Leadership

  • Conduct regular performance reviews and one-on-one meetings with team members.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and work checklists.
  • Support employee development and performance management initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should possess:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or ZICA.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and ERP platforms, preferably SAP.
  • Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment, ideally in the food and beverage sector.
  • Knowledge of Zambian tax regulations will be an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
