The Key Purpose of this role is to Safely operate and maintain defined Packaging equipment and related processes to achieve optimal effectiveness.

 

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Interpret and implement production plan for shift.
Operate manual and automatic machines online as per standards.
Monitor production processes on shift and correct any negative trends.
Ensure process quality and productivity.
Complete associated tracking and monitoring, including operator workstation administration and taking action as required.
Complete Team Room administration as required.
Contribute to self-development.
Manage PIMS & POMS and take corrective action on negative trends.
Use QFRs (as per triggers).
Complete 5 WHYs (as per triggers) with relevant team members.
Contribute towards AB reports as required.
Conduct autonomous operations.
Operate equipment in Packaging process areas according to VPO standards.
Constantly review process performance against targets, recording short stops, and correcting any out-of-control situations using VPO tools.
Record waste and product movement on appropriate documentation or systems, reviewing trends to identify and resolve problems.
Identify defective plant and report these to the Process Artisan or Team Leader to assist with resolution.
Assist the Process Artisan/Machine Specialist in executing running repairs on shift.
Carry out required quality checks and analyses, recording results on the appropriate information system.
React to results using VPO tools.
Actively participate in shift meetings, asking questions to test understanding and contributing suggestions.
Use relevant communication media (e.g., shift logbook) to stay informed and inform others of issues.
Complete handovers to incoming shift team members, ensuring performance, quality, and maintenance issues are communicated.
Use VPO problem-solving tools to resolve and record issues.

 

 

Key Attributes and Competencies:

Prepared to work shifts.
Applies core competencies to achieve optimum plant and process performance.
Manages a process area according to VPO principles and standards.
Logical and analytical problem solver capable of operating in an unstructured environment.
Strong team player with effective communication and collaboration skills.
Demonstrates initiative, energy, and achievement drive (aiming to exceed standards and continuously improve).
Mechanical, Electrical, or Laboratory Science aptitude.
Machine or laboratory-specific experience.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12.
Technical qualification (Mechanical/Electrical Certificate or Advanced Technician).
9 months on-the-job training with SKAP completed (or to be completed within 12 months).
Experience within a packaging FMCG industry (desirable).
