Website SolidarMed Zambia LTD
SolidarMed Zambia is the country office of SolidarMed, a Swiss-based international development organization dedicated to strengthening health systems in rural Africa. In Zambia, SolidarMed works in close partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia to address critical gaps in human resources for health (HRH), particularly in underserved and rural areas.
To respond to the acute shortage of qualified nurses and midwives, SolidarMed piloted and successfully implemented a decentralized training model at St. Luke’s College of Nursing in Mpanshya. This model allows student nurses and midwives to rotate through multiple clinical sites, gaining broader practical experience and improving the quality of their training. Following its success, the model has been scaled up to ten provincial nursing colleges across Zambia, each serving as a lead institution in its region.
This initiative aligns with Zambia’s 2022–2026 National Health Strategic Plan, which emphasizes decentralization, equitable distribution of health workers, and the expansion of specialized training. SolidarMed’s approach supports these national goals by enhancing institutional capacity, improving access to quality education, and ultimately strengthening the health workforce to meet the growing demands of the population
Description of Clinical Simulation Equipment for Decentralized Training of Nurses and Midwives.
This procurement seeks to acquire clinical simulation equipment—including skills lab medical tools and manikins—for use in decentralized training programs for nurses and midwives. These items fall under the category of medical simulation training equipment and are essential for delivering high-quality, competency-based education in settings where access to clinical facilities may be limited.
The equipment will be deployed by SolidarMed across multiple decentralized training sites to support practical instruction in core areas such as maternal and newborn care, emergency response, infection prevention, and basic life support. Simulation tools, including high- and low-fidelity manikins and task trainers, will enable learners to practice and master clinical procedures in a safe, controlled environment, thereby improving skill acquisition and reducing clinical errors.
This investment will contribute to the standardization of training across institutions, promote equitable access to practical learning, and strengthen the capacity of the nursing and midwifery workforce in alignment with national health priorities.
