Job description:
Purpose
Help prevent and reduce workplace incidents and injuries by ensuring compliance with safety regulations, policies, and procedures; cultivating a safe working environment; facilitating the implementation of safety policies; conducting risk assessments and safety inspections; investigating incidents thoroughly; training employees effectively; and fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, Policies, Procedures, Managerial Instructions, Mining regulations and Mine & minerals act to Safety, Health and Environment as required by the company.
Enforce provisions of Mining Regulations, the Mines and Minerals Act, and other applicable legislation.
Conduct compliance inspections to ensure adherence to company and legal safety standards.
Perform workplace audits, planned task observations, and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments; monitor and track corrective actions.
Implement approved safety plans and programs; monitor compliance with safety policies and standards.
Review incidents and assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.
Participate in accident investigations and ensure prompt communication of lessons learned.
Conduct safety training sessions (e.g., THINK!, Permit to Work, Energy Isolation, etc.).
Conduct site inductions for employees and contractors.
Motivate and support participation in toolbox talks, SHE committee, pre-starts, and H&S meetings
Engage with site supervision and employees to continuously improve safety performance.
Promote a strong safety culture through housekeeping, behavior-based safety, and safety leadership.
Compile and report safety KPIs for Operations and Engineering.
Assist and guide Operations and Engineering teams in procedure reviews.
Conduct workplace random alcohol screenings.
Demonstrate core values: Be Bolder, Driven, Smarter, and Together.
Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned by the supervisor to support the Safety Department’s effectiveness.
Qualifications
Minimum Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized Institution
Engineering qualification and experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Metallurgy will be added advantage
Computer literate – Word, Excel, Power-point, Publisher, Power BI.
Conversant with Safety Applications such as INX Incontrol and other software applications.
Have a Zambian driving licence – Minimum Class C.
Minimum of 2 years’ safety experience within the Mining/Processing plants
Knowledge of ISO45001.
All qualifications must be certified by Zambia Qualification Authority (ZAQA)
Experience
A minimum of two years’ experience, preferably with a background in the mining industry.
