Job description:
Role Purpose
The Mine Supervisor – Drilling G.E.T is responsible for supervising and coordinating Ground Engaging Tools (G.E.T) activities across the drill fleet to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. The role ensures the effective implementation of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes, monitors G.E.T performance and utilization, and drives compliance with operational standards and procedures. The Supervisor maintains accurate operational records, identifies improvement opportunities, and collaborates with Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and OEM partners to optimize GET performance, extend equipment life, and improve drilling productivity.
Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce compliance with all health, safety, environmental and operational standards.
- Supervise daily G.E.T activities across the drill fleet to ensure adherence to approved procedures and best practices.
- Conduct routine inspections of drill consumables and G.E.T components to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Monitor G.E.T wear rates, failure trends and component performance, escalating abnormalities to the G.E.T Coordinator.
- Verify that all G.E.T changes are correctly recorded within the drilling management systems and maintain accurate operational records.
- Support investigations into premature G.E.T failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure adequate availability of G.E.T components by monitoring stock levels and communicating replenishment requirements.
- Coordinate with warehouse personnel to verify stock accuracy and support regular stock counts.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to drill crews on correct G.E.T installation, operation and removal practices.
- Conduct routine field audits to ensure compliance with drilling standards, SOPs and QA/QC requirements.
- Assist in developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions and risk assessments.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operational reports on G.E.T performance, costs and equipment condition.
- Assist in implementing cost reduction initiatives aimed at improving G.E.T life and reducing drilling costs.
- Participate in machine inspections and improvement projects relating to drill consumables.
- Liaise with Maintenance, Operations and OEM representatives to resolve technical issues affecting drilling performance.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the G.E.T Coordinator or Mine Management.
Competencies
- Sound knowledge of drilling operations and Ground Engaging Tools (G.E.T).
- Understanding of drill consumables, wear mechanisms and failure analysis.
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) principles.
- Working knowledge of drill maintenance practices.
- Machine performance monitoring and operational reporting.
- Data collection, analysis and interpretation.
- Inventory and stock management principles.
- Basic condition monitoring techniques.
- Knowledge of drilling patterns, sequences and drilling standards.
- Report writing and presentation skills.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office packages.
- Effective planning and work prioritization skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with a minimum of five (5) credits or better.
- Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Mining Engineering; a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related field will be an added advantage.
- Valid Zambian Driver’s Licence.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ relevant experience in a mining environment, with at least one (1) year at supervisory level.
- All academic qualifications must be verified and validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
