Job description:
Overall Job Purpose:
To provide strong leadership and develop strategy for the commercial department
To make strong decisions for the progression of the department and company, simultaneously elevating team talent to be empowered on decision-making
To collaborate with the Trident management team to meet group objectives
To manage the commercial department and effectively procure, deliver and store all goods for FQM Trident to operate Enterprise and Sentinel Mine
To procure services for FQM Trident
To incorporate robust team developments plans and provide guidance and mentorship for succession planning
To create an environment that drives innovative thinking within various functions
To create a safe working environment for the employees in the department
Specific Job Responsibility:
Plan the day to day strategy of the department
Create long-term department plans to increase mine productivity at lowest cost
Drive data-driven decision-making while developing analytical thinking within team
Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements
Negotiate with suppliers to develop supplier relationships and create strategic business partnerships
Help facilitate concentrate sales/ metals logistics
Develop local business development strategy, developing and inculcating entrepreneurial thinking where feasible
Work hand in hand with the finance department to manage working capital
Motivate employees through sound leadership practices
Develop relationships with management to foster interdepartmental collaboration
Develop and recruit talent for the department
Develop and improve service delivery to end users
Prepare and manage the department budget
Mitigate against risk by developing future looking strategies
Engage with Government as required
Develop process and procedures for the department
Identify opportunities for digital adoption to improve team efficiencies and skill-set
Perform approval functions per the group delegation of authority schedule
Work with the HR department with disciplinary matters
Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager and assist any other department as and when required
Job Specific Competencies:
Experience leading large teams
Knowledge of leadership practices, principles and techniques
Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking
Knowledge of statutory requirements
Knowledge of group policy
Knowledge of how the mining industry operates and of the production process
Knowledge of procurement principles
Knowledge of finance/ taxation (preferred)
Knowledge of administrative practices and personnel management
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Comfort with use of different technologies

Experience:
At least 6 years’ experience in a similar position and/or function
Experience in mining/metals/engineering
Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree in Commerce, Business, Finance or related field
Master’s degree in Commerce, Business, Finance or related field (preferred)
Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply membership advantageous
