Comundo has been active in Zambia since more than four decades, working in close cooperation with a diverse network of partners. The focus of the country programme in Zambia lies on basic and vocational education (Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training TEVET) with the overall goal of contributing to inclusive quality education (SDG 4). Within this context, Comundo – in collaboration with multiple partners implements the project “Energy Skills 4 Youth (ES4Y): Competency-based vocational skills development in the (solar) energy sector to improve the livelihoods of disadvantaged youth”.
Your activities/tasks as a Curriculum Development Specialist TEVET, you will actively contribute to the development of a competency-based curriculum for (solar) energy and electricity. Based in Lusaka, you will collaborate with the Project Manager ES4Y, national and international advisors as well as further key stakeholders, including government bodies, vocational training centres, energy-sector partners. Exact percentages and duration can be adapted depending on tasks and availability, with potential of extension based on need and funding. This consultancy offers a unique opportunity to drive meaningful change across education, energy, and development sectors.
Your key responsibilities include
Facilitate the development of a competency-based curriculum for solar energy level 3.
Ensure that quality criteria for competency-based curriculum development are met.
Support and monitor progress in curriculum development and implementation.
Engage and strengthen partnerships with the relevant Ministries, TEVETA and vocational training centres, private sector companies in the energy sector, youth and community-led organisations and further strategic partners.
Assess the needs of implementing partners through participatory approaches and facilitate trainings, technical guidance, and further resources; promoting sustainability, intercultural Learning, and local ownership.
Your profile:
Qualifications: Degree in Education / Pedagogics / TEVET, or related fields.
Experience: Several years of professional experience within the education sector, ideally with a focus on curriculum development for TEVET. Demonstrated experience on competency- based education, learner-centered methods, etc. is a strong advantage.
Skills: Strong social and organisational skills, flexibility and adaptability, collaboration and networking skills. Digital proficiency and good written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
Personal Attributes: Independent and team-oriented, self-motivated, open to try out new things and methods, with a willingness to travel within and beyond Lusaka (if needed).
