Job Purpose
The Legal Counsel will provide legal and strategic advice to the organization, at all levels. The Legal Counsel will assist the Corporate Secretary and General Counsel in advising, and providing support to, senior management and the Board of Governors on corporate governance matters. Provide regulatory guidance and expert opinions to help management understand legal matters affecting business operations and transactions. Represent company in criminal and civil cases, and spearhead compliance and litigation efforts. Collaborate with the in-house legal team in analyzing laws, rulings, contracts, and regulations to address legal concerns and protect the interests of the organization.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures
Take charge of in-house lawyer advising the organization on legal matters.
Analyzing facts and applying legal knowledge and skills to provide sound legal solutions.
Conduct negotiation and drafting across various areas of the law.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for legal department and other areas of responsibility.
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements.
Facilitate evidence-based decision-making through the use of data and analytics tools relevant to the legal and regulatory context of the organization.
Staying up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect your business and specific industry.
Liaising with senior members of staff in various legal matters
Shape and implement legal solutions for the organization.
Undertake corporate secretarial matters and duties
Ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business.
Promoting legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company.
Communicating with and managing any third-party bodies such as external counsel or auditors.
Designing and delivering legal training to the business.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB)
Admitted to the Bar
Must have a minimum of 5+ years-post experience in external or in-house legal experience
Must have proven work experience as Legal Counsel.
Working knowledge of local, state and regulations
Working experience with a government agency as Legal Counsel or similar will be a plus
Must have proven experience in managing Property law, Regional and Local Commercial transactions, Mergers and Acquisitions
Strong legal experience in Corporate and Commercial Matters.
Experienced in managing external legal counsels.
Detail-oriented and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Valid LAZ Practicing Certificate.Â
