Key Responsibilities for Legal Counsel Jobs in Lusaka

The Legal Counsel will be responsible for a broad range of legal functions, including but not limited to:

• Legal Advice & Drafting: Provide sound legal counsel to various business units on matters of law, ethics, and corporate governance to minimize legal risks.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support compliance and resolve regulatory challenges.
• Collaborate with internal departments to address identified legal risks and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
• Draft and review a variety of legal documents such as contracts, agreements, pleadings, affidavits, deeds, and leases to protect the company’s interests.
• Contract & Record Management: Monitor contract expirations and manage the renewal process while maintaining organized and accurate records.
• Corporate Governance: Assist in preparing and distributing meeting materials for Board and Committee members and provide administrative support to the Head of Legal.
• Regulatory Compliance & Stakeholder Management: Support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, and ensure timely responses to customer complaints from regulators and stakeholders.
• Litigation: Manage litigation matters on behalf of the company as required.
• Prepare monthly reports as requested by the Head of Legal and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Candidates applying for this role should meet the following criteria:

• At least two (2) years of post-admission experience in a similar legal position.
• Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Zambia.
• Membership in the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and Zambia Business Tenders.
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
• Proficiency in preparing complex legal documents and handling sensitive information with discretion.
• Strong skills in legal research tools and software.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.

Educational Background and Personal Attributes

• Grade 12 School Certificate with credits in English and Mathematics.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
• Independent, flexible, and able to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational abilities and a commitment to upholding ethical standards.
