Job description

Job Summary
Reporting to the Principal Investigator and Study Coordinator, the Laboratory Technologist will support laboratory operations for the RotaOmics Project. The role is responsible for processing and managing biological specimens, performing immunology assays, maintaining laboratory quality systems and biobanking activities, supporting research and data management, and ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and institutional biosafety standards.
Main duties
  • Receive, process, label, store, and maintain traceability of biological specimens in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform laboratory procedures including specimen processing, PBMC isolation, cryopreservation, ELISA, ELISpot, and preparation of samples for flow cytometry and other molecular analyses.
  • Maintain the project biobank, monitor specimen storage conditions, and ensure the integrity of stored samples.
  • Prepare and package biological specimens for shipment to collaborating laboratories in compliance with IATA and institutional requirements.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, enter results into approved databases, and ensure confidentiality of research data.
  • Ensure compliance with GCLP, GCP, biosafety, biosecurity, and laboratory quality management requirements.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and equipment, report procurement needs, and assist with quality control and troubleshooting of laboratory procedures.
  • Support laboratory planning, study monitoring visits, audits, regulatory inspections, and preparation of study reports.
  • Contribute to laboratory assay development, SOP updates, staff training, and scientific research activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized laboratory environment.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal Investigator or Study Coordinator.
Qualifications
Essential
  • Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Laboratory Medicine, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a biomedical or clinical research laboratory.
  • Experience supporting clinical research studies and processing human biological specimens, including blood, stool, and tissue samples.
  • Practical experience performing immunological assays such as ELISA and ELISpot.
  • Experience with PBMC isolation, cryopreservation, biobanking, and laboratory quality systems.
Desirable
  • Experience with flow cytometry sample preparation and immune cell assays.
  • Experience in vaccine, infectious disease, or enteric disease research.
  • Knowledge of biological specimen shipment procedures and IATA requirements.
  • Knowledge of molecular immunology, transcriptomics, or spatial biology techniques.
  • Current GCP, GCLP, and biosafety training or certification.
Required Competencies
