A. About GreenCo Power Services (Pty) Limited (GreenCo) 

GreenCo is a renewable energy intermediary, its primary role being a creditworthy offtaker and service provider to IPPs, and on-selling power to C&I customers, the competitive markets of the SAPP, and national utilities. Through its activities, GreenCo will increase the supply of, and demand for, financing for energy projects, and mobilise private sector capital more quickly towards critical and transformative capacity addition.

B. The Role in Context 

As we expand our trading and operations, we are building robust and scalable data systems in Microsoft Fabric to support real-time decision-making, risk management and operational efficiency. As such, the Junior Data Engineer will support the team in building and maintaining data pipelines, dashboards and analytical tools.

Key duties: 

Develop and maintain ETL pipelines in Microsoft Fabric to integrate trading, market and operational data.
Build and manage scheduled data ingestion and transform jobs into data lakes.
Write SQL queries to pull and manipulate data.
Perform data validation and quality checks to ensure reliability of outputs.
Document processes, pipelines and system configurations for ongoing use and scalability.
Collaborate with the Lead Data Architect on design and in code reviews.
Work with business analysts to ensure data aligns with trading, finance and operational needs.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, commercial awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively within a small fast-growing business.

As GreenCo is a regional business, candidates must be willing to travel.

C. Qualifications and Requirements 

The Junior Data Engineer will be expected to bring a combination of the following experience, personal attributes and qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Statistics or related field.
1–2 years of experience in a data engineering, data analytics, or software development role.
Comfortable with Python programming language.
Good knowledge of SQL and database concepts.
Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts.
Internship or project experience in data analytics, databases or software development is a plus but not a requirement.
Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly Azure, is an added advantage.

E. Time Commitment 

This is a full-time role. While the standard working week is 40 hours, the ideal candidate must be willing to travel and work flexible hours to achieve GreenCo’s business objectives.

G. Reporting Lines 

This role directly reports to the Lead Data Architect or his/her delegate.
