Job description

Job Title: Instrument Technician

Location: Lumwana Expansion Project, Kalumbila District, Zambia
Reports To: Instrumentation Supervisor / E&I Manager
Contract Type: Project-BasedJob application tracking

Job Purpose:

The Instrument Technician will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and control systems on site, ensuring operational reliability and compliance with Zambian regulatory requirements and industry standards. The role supports the safe and efficient operation of the project’s electrical and instrumentation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain field instruments including transmitters, sensors, actuators, and controllersJob application tracking

Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems

Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrumentation drawings for installation and repair work

Test and commission instrumentation equipment to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards

Work collaboratively with electrical and control engineers to resolve system faults and optimize performance

Document maintenance and repair activities including calibration records and test certificates

Ensure compliance with Zambian safety regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and project policies

Participate actively in safety meetings and contribute to continuous safety and quality improvements

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements (Aligned with Zambian Standards):

Education & Trade Qualifications:

Certificate or Diploma in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field awarded by an accredited Zambian institution such as Zambia Institute of Engineers (ZIE), Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) or equivalent

Valid Artisan Trade Test Certificate in Instrument Mechanician or Instrument Technician issued by TEVETA or recognized authority

Valid driver’s license is an advantage

Experience:

Minimum 3 to 5 years’ relevant experience as an Instrument Technician, preferably in mining or industrial environments

Experience working with instrumentation devices, PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems preferred

Familiarity with Zambian safety standards and regulations (e.g., Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Act)

Skills & Competencies:

Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities

Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications

Good interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work in a team environment

Strong safety awareness and adherence to health and safety standards

Working Conditions:

Site-based at the Lumwana Expansion Project in a mining environment

May require work at heights and in confined spaces

Shift work and extended hours may be necessary

Strict compliance with PPE and safety protocols
