Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Earth Moving Equipment Mechanic to join our dedicated team at Mineral Link Limited. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards are met on-site. Your expertise will contribute to the overall efficiency and productivity of our operations, making a significant impact in the field.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Maintenance and Repair of Earth-Moving Equipment:
Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty mining equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, haul trucks, and loaders.
Identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in equipment and provide timely solutions to minimize downtime.
2. Routine Equipment Inspections:
Conduct regular inspections to ensure all machinery is in safe and working condition, following established guidelines and safety protocols.
Identify wear, damage, or malfunctions and recommend appropriate repairs or part replacements.
3. Troubleshooting and Fault Diagnosis:
Use diagnostic tools and equipment to locate mechanical faults in engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
Analyse and address issues to restore earth-moving machinery to full operational capacity.
4. Preventive Maintenance:
Implement scheduled maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of equipment and reduce unscheduled downtime.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used, and machine performance.
5. Component Rebuilds and Replacements:
Rebuild and replace critical components, such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical parts.
Ensure high-quality workmanship and that all repairs are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
6. Collaboration with Operations Teams:
Work closely with machine operators and other technical teams to understand operational issues and ensure equipment performance meets operational needs.
Provide technical support and training to equipment operators on proper handling and basic maintenance of machinery.
7. Safety Compliance:
Ensure adherence to mine safety regulations during maintenance and repair tasks, including the proper use of tools and safety equipment.
Follow company protocols and procedures when working on machinery.
8. Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including job cards and reports on equipment status.
Provide regular reports on equipment performance and suggest improvements to reduce mechanical issues and enhance efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements
Full Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) credits or better.
Advance Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repair. Diploma in Heavy Equipment is an added advantage
At least 4 years’ proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic in a mining environment
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Proficient with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Physical ability to lift heavy parts and work in various environments.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or overtime.
Commitment to workplace safety and compliance.
