Health and Nutrition Specialist Jobs in Lusaka

Action Against Hunger is seeking a dedicated Health and Nutrition Specialist to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight of integrated health and nutrition interventions in Lusaka, Zambia. This role is critical for delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and life-saving services aligned with national and international standards, including National IMAM guidelines, SPHERE standards, DG ECHO requirements, and Ministry of Health protocols.

About the Role: Health and Nutrition Specialist Jobs in Lusaka

The Specialist will strengthen health systems, nutrition programming, and community-based services targeting vulnerable groups such as children under five, pregnant and lactating women, adolescents, refugees, and host communities. This position demands a proactive leader who ensures compliance, quality assurance, and effective program implementation across multiple health platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Programme Quality: Oversee CMAM/IMAM programming, maternal and child health services, and primary health care. Lead the adaptation of protocols and ensure integration of nutrition, health, WASH, and protection services.
  • Programme Implementation & Supervision: Manage activities at Mantapala Rural Health Centre, health posts, and community platforms. Ensure continuous service delivery, functional OTP and inpatient services, and effective referral systems. Supervise and mentor health and nutrition teams.
  • Capacity Building & Systems Strengthening: Develop and deliver training for health workers and partners, focusing on IMAM protocols, clinical case management, nutrition screening, and infection prevention. Provide mentorship and strengthen health facility systems and data use.
  • Supply Chain & Commodity Management: Ensure availability of essential medicines and nutrition supplies such as RUTF, F-75, and F-100. Oversee forecasting, procurement planning, and stock monitoring to prevent stock-outs.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL): Lead accurate data collection and analysis using DHIS2 and CMAM/IMAM databases. Track key indicators and promote accountability through feedback mechanisms and community engagement.
  • Coordination & Representation: Represent Action Against Hunger in health and nutrition cluster meetings and coordinate with Ministry of Health, UN agencies, and local partners to ensure program alignment.
  • Integration of Cross-Cutting Themes: Promote gender equality, protection mainstreaming, safeguarding, disability inclusion, and environmental considerations within all activities.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response: Provide technical input for crisis response and support rapid interventions during disease outbreaks, malnutrition surges, and climate shocks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Public Health, Nutrition, or Nursing; Master’s degree in Public Health or Nutrition preferred.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in humanitarian health and nutrition programming, including CMAM/IMAM implementation and health systems strengthening.
  • Experience working in refugee or emergency contexts and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Strong knowledge of IMAM/CMAM protocols, RMNCH services, and public health systems.
  • Proficiency with DHIS2, data analysis tools, and training facilitation.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, leadership, analytical skills, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
