Job description

Hanchu Energy is hiring a Project Manager to lead C&I and utility-scale renewable energy projects in Zambia.

Position: Project Manager
Location: Zambia

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Project Manager to lead our C&I and utility-scale renewable energy projects in Zambia.

Key Responsibilities
– Lead project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution for C&I solar/battery storage projects and utility-scale solar (PV) plants.
– Manage EPC contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure safe, on-time, and quality delivery.
– Coordinate with OEM HQ, clients, ZESCO, ERB, and local authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
– Oversee procurement, logistics, import coordination, and site mobilization.
– Monitor project KPIs including cost, schedule, safety, and quality standards.
– Manage interconnection and grid-code compliance with ZESCO and ERB.
– Prepare progress reports, risk registers, and forecasts for management and clients.
– Ensure compliance with laws, permits, and environmental regulations.
– Manage stakeholders including landowners, off-takers, financiers, and government agencies.
– Support tendering and bid preparation for new project delivery.

Requirements
– Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
– Master’s degree in Project Management, Engineering Management, or Renewable Energy is an added advantage.
– Minimum 7-10 years of overall experience in engineering/construction project delivery, with at least 5 years in solar PV or renewable energy project management.
– Proven experience managing both C&I and utility-scale solar projects from development/EPC through to commissioning.
– Experience working with or alongside Chinese OEMs, EPC contractors, or equipment suppliers is highly desirable.
– Experience in Zambia or the wider SADC region is strongly preferred, including familiarity with ZESCO grid codes and ERB licensing processes.
– Track record of managing multi-million-dollar project budgets and cross-functional/multinational teams.

Certifications
– PMP (Project Management Professional), PMI, or PRINCE2 Practitioner certification.
– Valid Zambian driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote project sites.

Skills and Competencies
– Strong technical understanding of solar PV systems, BESS integration, and grid interconnection.
– Excellent contract management skills; FIDIC or EPC contracts experience preferred.
– Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and cross-cultural communication skills.
– Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar scheduling tools.
– Fluency in English is required; Mandarin skills are an added advantage but not mandatory.
– Strong analytical, budgeting, and reporting capabilities.
