General Worker with Trade Skills in Welding

We are seeking a versatile Hospital General Worker with Trade Skills in Welding to join our facilities team. This dual-purpose role is critical for keeping our hospital campus safe, clean, accessible, and visually welcoming.

You will perform daily groundskeeping, landscaping, and outdoor facility maintenance, while utilizing your welding skills to repair hospital infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Welding & Metal Maintenance (Trade Skill)

• Infrastructure Repair: Weld and repair outdoor metal structures, including safety handrails, pedestrian guardrails, wheelchair ramp assemblies, metal gates, and security fences to ensure patient and visitor safety.
• Equipment & Fleet Maintenance: Perform structural welding repairs on groundskeeping machinery.

2. Groundskeeping & Outdoor Labor (General Support)

• Landscaping & Upkeep: Perform routine mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, and clearing of landscaped areas, and gardening.
• Hazard Clearance: Keep emergency entrance bays, ambulance bays, walkways, and parking lots free of debris, litter, and safety hazards.
• Waste Management: Assist in emptying outdoor waste receptacles, collecting recyclable materials, and ensuring bulk refuse zones are organized.
• Seasonal Prep: Participate in seasonal tasks (e.g., clearing autumn leaves, snow/ice removal from critical hospital pathways, applying salt to walkways).

3. Healthcare Environment & Safety Compliance

• Patient Safety First: Ensure all tools, cords, and welding equipment are safely cordoned off and never left unattended in public-facing areas.
• Noise & Dust Management: Coordinate welding, grinding, and loud outdoor work to minimize disruption near patient wards and quiet zones.
• Infection Control: Adhere to hospital guidelines regarding cleanliness, hand hygiene, and entering or leaving active healthcare zones.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or facility maintenance, paired with a reliable background in metal fabrication/welding.
• Welding Proficiency: Competence in welding and ability to operate grinders and cut metal out on the field without workshop benches.
• Hospital Safety Awareness: Ability to understand and strictly follow safety protocols.
• Physical Demands: Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to stand, bend, and navigate a sprawling campus on foot.
