Clean and wash tractors, trucks, harvesters, loaders, trailers, and support vehicles using pressure washers, hoses, brushes, and approved cleaning agents.
Remove mud, cane residue, oil, grease, and debris from wheels, chassis, steps, radiators, and equipment exteriors.
Ensure windows, mirrors, lights, and camera lenses are cleaned to support operator visibility and safe operation.
Follow standard cleaning procedures for different equipment types to protect paintwork, sensors, and components.

Wash Bay Operation & Maintenance

Operate wash bay equipment (pressure washers, pumps, hoses, water recycling systems).
Monitor water levels, drainage systems, and filtration components to ensure the wash bay remains functional and safe.
Maintain a clean and organised wash bay area, removing mud build-up, standing water, or obstructions.
Ensure correct storage of hoses, chemicals, and equipment after use.

Conduct visual checks on equipment before washing to identify excessive build-up, leaks, or damage.
Report abnormalities (e.g., hydraulic leaks, flat tyres, loose components) to the Workshop Supervisor.
Ensure all panels, windows, and electrical components are secure before washing.

Safety & Compliance

Follow all wash bay and workshop safety rules, including PPE requirements and chemical handling procedures.
Ensure safe use of pressure washing equipment to avoid damage and personal injury.
Place warning signage such as “Wet Floor” or “Wash in Progress” when needed.
Comply with environmental management requirements related to wastewater, oilwater separation, and chemical disposal.
Report hazards, unsafe equipment, or spills immediately.

Support to Workshop & Fleet Operations

Assist mechanics or supervisors by preparing equipment for inspection or maintenance (e.g., cleaning engine compartments or radiators).
Support routine fleet cleanliness checks and ensure vehicles are ready for dispatch.
Clean workshop floors, ramps, and adjacent areas when required to maintain safe working conditions.
Assist with steam cleaning or degreasing operations under supervision.

Stock & Equipment Management

Monitor and request replenishment of cleaning materials (detergents, degreasers, brushes, PPE).
Inspect wash bay equipment daily and report faults or maintenance needs.
Ensure chemicals are stored safely in accordance with MSDS guidelines.

Documentation & Reporting

Complete daily checklists for cleaned vehicles and wash bay equipment inspections.
Record any issues identified during cleaning (damages, leaks, safety concerns).
Report work completed or outstanding tasks to the Supervisor at the end of each shift.

Job Advert Summary The General Worker – Washbay is responsible for cleaning, washing, and maintaining the appearance and hygiene of heavy equipment and vehicles used in sugar cane harvesting and
logistics. This includes tractors, haulage trucks, trailers, cane loaders, harvesters, service vehicles, and support machinery. The role ensures that equipment is cleaned to operational
standards, preventing debris build-up, improving visibility, and supporting routine maintenance. He/She contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of the fleet by ensuring
machines are clean, accessible for inspection, and free from mud, cane residue, and contaminants that can hinder performance or cause mechanical issues.
Minimum Requirements Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Educational Requirement

N/A
Training in chemical handling, PPE usage, or industrial cleaning is beneficial.

Experience

1–2 years’ experience in a wash bay, workshop, automotive, agricultural, or industrial cleaning environment preferred.
Experience cleaning heavy machinery (tractors, trucks, loaders) is an advantage.
Familiarity with pressure washers, hoses, and wash bay systems.

Technical Skills

Ability to use pressure washers, hoses, brushes, and cleaning equipment safely.
Understanding of heavy equipment structure and cleaning access points.
Knowledge of chemical safety and basic environmental compliance.
Basic ability to identify leaks, damages, or unusual wear.

Physically fit and comfortable performing manual labour in outdoor environments.
