Role and Responsibilities for General Practitioner Jobs in Lusaka

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, and referrals. Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct thorough patient history taking, clinical examinations, and accurate diagnosis in line with medical standards.
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the facility.
• Prescribe medications responsibly, ensuring rational pharmaceutical use.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, utilizing support services such as Laboratory, Radiology, and Physiotherapy effectively.
• Refer patients to specialists when necessary and coordinate their management plans.
• Maintain accurate, confidential medical records at all times.
• Supervise and mentor clinical and support staff as applicable.
• Participate actively in ward rounds, case discussions, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Promote preventive healthcare and educate patients on disease management and lifestyle modifications.
• Adhere strictly to medical ethics, professionalism, and patient confidentiality.
• Stay updated on medical advancements and clinical best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Medical degree such as MB ChB, MBBS, MD, or equivalent.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) post-internship.
• Valid practicing license.
• Prior clinical experience in a private hospital setting is advantageous.
• Strong diagnostic, clinical, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
• High integrity, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality.
• Computer literacy and ability to work within electronic medical records systems.
