Kingsland City is seeking skilled formwork carpenter and steel worker jobs candidates to join our construction team on a contract basis. We require experienced professionals to contribute to the successful delivery of concrete structure projects by expertly constructing formwork and installing steel reinforcement in line with project specifications and safety standards.

Formwork Carpenter Role Overview

As a Formwork Carpenter, you will be responsible for constructing, installing, and dismantling formwork and shuttering systems essential for concrete works. Reporting to the Site Supervisor or Foreman, you will work closely with steel fixers, masons, and other trades to ensure formwork is accurately built and safe for concrete placement.

Key Responsibilities for Formwork Carpenters

• Interpret construction drawings and specifications to plan formwork layout.
• Measure, cut, assemble, and install timber, plywood, and metal formwork for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, staircases, and walls.
• Ensure formwork is properly aligned, leveled, and securely fixed before concrete pouring.
• Inspect formwork integrity and safety throughout the construction process.
• Dismantle formwork once concrete has reached required strength.
• Maintain and store tools and materials responsibly.
• Adhere strictly to company safety protocols and site regulations.
• Report any defects, hazards, or material shortages to supervisors promptly.

Steel Worker / Steel Fixer Position Summary

The Steel Worker, also known as Steel Fixer, plays a vital role in preparing and securing reinforcing steel bars and mesh for concrete structures. Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor or Foreman, you will ensure all reinforcement complies with engineering drawings and quality standards.

Primary Duties for Steel Workers

• Read and interpret reinforcement drawings and bar bending schedules.
• Measure, cut, bend, and prepare steel reinforcement bars accurately.
• Fix and tie reinforcement for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, walls, and other structural elements.
• Install steel mesh and reinforcement cages as required by the project.
• Verify correct positioning and secure fixing of reinforcement prior to concrete placement.
• Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Inspect finished work to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good condition.
• Follow all site safety rules and company policies diligently.
• Report safety hazards, material defects, or quality issues to supervisors immediately.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Grade 9 or Grade 12 Certificate.
• Trade Certificate in Carpentry for Formwork Carpenters or Steel Fixing for Steel Workers, or relevant construction experience.
• Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in formwork carpentry or steel fixing.
• Ability to read and interpret construction and reinforcement drawings accurately.
• Physically fit and capable of performing manual labor, including working at heights (for carpenters).
